The new show

This October, The Amsterdam Dungeon invites you to a chilling séance. For a limited time only, we open the doors to The House with the Bloodstains, a brand-new show based on the true story of Coenraad van Beuningen.

Guided by a self-proclaimed medium, you’ll step inside for a séance meant to finally send his restless soul to the afterlife. But soon you’ll realize that something is terribly wrong. The door slams shut behind you, the lights start to flicker, and the table beneath your hands begins to tremble.

What begins as an exciting experiment quickly turns into a nightmare. The walls seem to whisper, something moves in the shadows, and suddenly you feel an icy breath on your neck.

Do you dare to take part and discover what truly haunts The House with the Bloodstains?

The limited-time show runs until the 1st of November 2025.

Based on a true story

Our new temporary show is based on a true story about Mayor Coenraad van Beuningen, one of the most remarkable and tragic figures in Amsterdam’s history.

In the seventeenth century, Van Beuningen was a powerful man. He served as mayor of Amsterdam, diplomat, scholar, and one of the most influential statesmen of his time. But his fame slowly turned into despair. After political setbacks, financial losses, and personal humiliation, he became obsessed with religious visions and prophecies of the end of days.

Tormented by fear and madness, he locked himself inside his house on the Amstel River. According to witnesses, he covered the walls with strange symbols and biblical messages, written not in ink but in his own blood. Neighbours claimed to hear him screaming about demonic voices and divine punishment. When he died, he left behind a house that many believed to be cursed.

Centuries later, the people of Amsterdam still call it The House with the Bloodstains. Some say the marks of his madness remain on the walls, and those who walk past at night sometimes swear they can still hear something inside.
