The York Dungeon is encouraging everyone to keep their eyes peeled - there’s a body snatcher on the loose!

1st October, 2015

To confirm its position as the Home of Halloween, the York Dungeon has launched a brand new spine-chilling show, Body Snatchers, which will take place from Saturday 17th October to Sunday 1st November.

The unique attraction is known for digging up parts of York’s murky history, but this time is a bit different, the body snatcher himself, John Hodgson, is roaming the Dungeon looking for his next corpse.

The new hair-raising show will see one of the most intimidating, ghoulish, characters ever introduced. Equipped with his prize possession, his shovel, John will be looking for those that can fall victim to his deadly digging ways!

The Body Snatchers aren’t new to the town of York and first arrived in the 1800s. These unsafe individuals would dig up freshly buried bodies that they would then sell to medical schools in Edinburgh. This was actually what made York one of John’s gangs’ main targets, as it was en route to the Scottish capital. John was imprisoned and spent six weeks at York Castle for his unforgiving crimes in 1832, the bad news is; he has made an unwelcome return!

If the Body Snatchers aren’t enough to get visitors looking over their shoulders they can also enjoy a 75 minute journey through 2,000 years of York's dark history. Guided by a full cast of actors, visitors will walk through The Dungeon, moving from show to show. Shows are based on York’s real history (minus the boring bits) where you can get up close and personal with other local legends including Eric Bloodaxe and Dick Turpin.

Body Snatchers will run from the 17th October to 1st November and advance booking is essential to avoid horrible disappointment. Visit thedungeons.com/york/en/ to book tickets. Reduced prices are available for tickets booked in advance.
