Here's what an actual school has to say about us:

"We had a great experience at the San Francisco Dungeon. The tour itself was not only funny, entertaining, and engaging, but extremely educational and informative as my students learned about the origins of San Francisco including the gold rush, early gangs of San Francisco, and the Black Plague.

The actors were great; they adapted well to student comments and responses, and struck the perfect balance of being informative, funny, and a bit scary! Not only did students learn on their visit to the Dungeon, but it was also a great bonding experience for our classroom community as a whole.

Experiencing the Dungeon together brought us all closer and had my students telling stories to each other and their friends. I would highly recommend a trip to the San Francisco Dungeon!"

The Experience

The Dungeons brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages, scenes and rides in a truly unique and exciting walk through experience that you see, hear, touch, smell and feel. It’s hilarious fun and it’s sometimes a bit scary.

We love it. We know your class will too. Here's why:

  • Full on 360 degree sets with gripping storytelling
  • 19  interactive shows, 20 live actors, 1000 years of history
  • State of the art theming and special effects
  • 2 thrilling underground rides (height restrictions apply)
  • 110 minutes of laughs and screams

Intended for KS3 & KS4 (and older KS2 pupils that are feeling particularly brave) this is a unique and fun introduction to a range of classroom subjects, including History and Performing Arts.

The shows are based on real London history and legends (minus the boring bits). You'll get up close and personal with sinister characters including the infamous Jack the Ripper and and our very own Plague Doctor's Assistant to name a few.

Here is a tantalising taster of some of our most popular shows and attractions. You can also download a map of the London Dungeon's tour.

Your students should walk away from the experience with the following:

  • Understanding of key events from London’s darkest history
  • Confidence to get involved in audience participation
  • Performing Arts in action – role play, costume, language and voice projection
  • Social/interactive opportunity will fellow pupils

Lesson Plans

The London Dungeon is a multi-sensory experience, delivered by 20 live actors across 19 scripted shows.  The gripping story telling of local stories provides a unique platform to engage and excite your student’s minds; we guarantee it will be a hysterically horrible day out for all!

We recommend a visit to The London Dungeon is combined with our free downloadable pre-visit lesson plans. They offer History, English and Performing Arts Curriculum Links.

18th Century courts were very different to courts today. The victim of the crime was usually the person who brought the case to court and presented the evidence. Delve in deeper and deduce what life was like with an 18th Century judicial system through re-enactment role play - debate, challenge and deliver the sentence.

Using the pupil worksheets, students will learn about the causes and the short term/long term effects of the plague including medieval beliefs towards medicine and health. Time for your pupils to reflect and write a diary as if there are a goldsmith living in London during the plague of 1348.

It’s the 2nd September 1666 and the sparks from Thomas Farriner’s bakery in Pudding Lane have set the packed timber houses of London alight and the city has become a raging inferno. To ensure your class escapes they will need to work together as a team to piece together suspected causes and effects of this life changing event.

Torture has been used for over 2000 years and most of the world’s civilizations have used torture as a way of punishing their victims or to find out information. Many of the instruments of torture you will see in the Dungeons have been around for hundreds of years. These work sheets will help students appreciate how and why they were used and their effects within the context of history.
