The Experience

The Dungeons brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages, scenes and rides in a truly unique and exciting walk through experience that you see, hear, touch, smell and feel. It’s hilarious fun and it’s sometimes a bit scary.

We love it. We know your class will too. Here's why:

Intended for KS3 & KS4 (and older KS2 pupils that are feeling particularly brave) this is a unique and fun introduction to a range of classroom subjects, including History and Performing Arts.

The shows are based on real Lancashire history and legends (minus the boring bits). You'll get up close and personal with sinister characters including the infamous Pendle  Witches and and our very own Plague Doctor's Assistant to name a few.

Lesson Plans

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon is a multi-sensory experience, delivered by live actors across 11 scripted shows.  The gripping story telling of local stories provides a unique platform to engage and excite your student’s minds; we guarantee it will be a hysterically horrible day out for all!

18TH CENTURY CRIME AND PUNISHMENT – DOWNLOAD HERE

18th Century courts were very different to courts today. The victim of the crime was usually the person who brought the case to court and presented the evidence. Delve in deeper and deduce what life was like with an 18th Century judicial system through re-enactment role play - debate, challenge and deliver the sentence.

PLAGUE IN 1348 & 1665 – DOWNLOAD HERE

Using the pupil worksheets, students will learn about the causes and the short term/long term effects of the plague including medieval beliefs towards medicine and health. Time for your pupils to reflect and write a diary as if there are a goldsmith living in London during the plague of 1348.

TORTURE IN THE MIDDLE AGES – DOWNLOAD HERE

Torture has been used for over 2000 years and most of the world’s civilizations have used torture as a way of punishing their victims or to find out information. Many of the instruments of torture you will see in the Dungeons have been around for hundreds of years. These work sheets will help students appreciate how and why they were used and their effects within the context of history.

    One free teacher visit every 5 primary students and one free teacher for every 10 secondary students. To help with supervision on the day - we suggest 1 teacher per 10-12 pupils and a minimum of 2 teachers per visit.
  • Free teacher inspection visits
    Up to two teachers can take a look around The Blackpool Tower Dungeon prior to the school visit and can be arranged by emailing schoolsblackpool@merlinentertainments.biz 
  • All pupils who survive the Dungeon recieve a free activity card
