The Plague

In 1348 Europe was torn apart by disease. Almost a third of the population succumbed to the terrifying plague; within a week of contracting it, large boils developed, fever and vomitting took hold before the victim eventually died. Bodies piled up on the streets as more and more people fell ill. Agonised shouts filled the air as panic and death invaded every corner.

In The Hamburg Dungeon, step into 1350, when The Black Death reached the Hamburg gates, and experience the horror of civilization falling prey to the repugnant disease. Walk the streets of infected Hamburg and hear the cries of 'bring out your dead!'

The apparent armageddon evoked the most widespread terror the world has known. The sense of helplessness and doom drained all humanity- an almost unimaginable scene today.

The Great Fire
It is 1842 and Hamburg is engulfed in a raging inferno! The Great Fire is swallowing the city with swathes of orange death, people are fleeing for their lives and thousands of firefighters are battling the flames.

Stortebeker's Execution
Stortebeker was a notorious pirate who sailed the seas in the 14th century. He and his crew of 70 comrades were caught and sentenced to death on the 20th October 1400. The story of his execution has lived on through the centuries as legend.

Sturmflut 1717
In 1717 Hamburg was crippled by a powerful storm. The devastation and horrific casualties haunt the city to this day. Jump on board your boat in The Hamburg Dungeon and witness the heavens break and the ground shake as you ride the storm of 1717!
